Intake Counselor

Originally established in 1959 as the Occupational Center of Union County, Inroads to Opportunities provides programs and services to over 400 individuals each year. The individuals we serve are ages 16 through retirement, have intellectual and developmental disabilities and many are economically disadvantaged. We provide services such as vocational preparation, employment services, transition from school to work, certificate training programs, day habilitation and mental health services.

We are seeking an empathetic Intake Counselor to join our team. The primary function of this role is to arrange for and give all interested parties tours of the facility and ensure all paperwork is completed and input into electronic health records system while carrying an extended employment caseload. 

 Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field, as well as have a compassionate, outgoing personality and will work well within a collaborative team environment. 

Essential Duties

  • Arrange for and give all interested parties tours of the facility and ensure all paperwork is completed and input into electronic health records system. 

  • Work with referred individuals, guardians, internal staff, and referring entities (such as DVRS, Support Coordination agencies, and School Systems) to develop an internal plan of services and ensure funding stream of each service. 

  • Schedule and complete intake process for all referred participants accepted for admissions to Inroads programs. 

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all services and requirements for services offered by Inroads. 

  • Work closely with all Directors as well as vocational evaluator to ensure a steady stream of intakes. 

  • Complete monthly report of intakes to include referral sources, services offered/services receiving and identifies trends. 

  • Facilitate review of NJISP and Service Detail Reports for DDD funded individuals. 

Vocational Caseload Duties

This position will carry an extended employment caseload. 

Individual counseling with a goal of helping participants relate to their aptitudes, skills, interests and limitations within a framework of a realistic vocational objective. Individuals could be in school, vocational programming or mental health programming. Counselors are required to become proficient in written goal plan development. 

Prepare and maintain on-going case records of the participants’ status. 

Prepare reports about participants to the appropriate sponsoring agency. 

Prepare statistical data on the status of each participant to be presented to the Director of Vocational Services as needed. 

Participate in regular staff meetings. 

Screen and evaluate all pertinent records and reports on new participants regarding psychological, social and vocational information. 

Observe and interpret participants’ performance and work behavior on regular contract work. 

Present cases at staff meetings to include recommendations. 

Other vocational duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Social Service, or related field 

Valid NJ driver’s license in good standing 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

Ability to provide compassionate care and support to participants 

Bilingual, English/Spanish. 

Compensation

$22.52-$29.28 per hour
