Food Service Training Assistant

Originally established in 1959 as the Occupational Center of Union County, Inroads to Opportunities provides programs and services to over 400 individuals each year. The individuals we serve are ages 16 through retirement, have intellectual and developmental disabilities and many are economically disadvantaged. We provide services such as vocational preparation, employment services, transition from school to work, certificate training programs, day habilitation and mental health services.

We are seeking an experienced Food Service Training Assistant that is responsible for maintenance of the cafeteria and cashiering duties when necessary and will provide daily supervision of Cafeteria operations. Ideal candidates will have a ServSafe Food Handler’s certification, be able to perform accurate math, counting, cashiering and computations as well as have experience in working with people with disabilities and food services. 

Essential Duties

  • Observes and provides feedback to Food Service Manager, Food Services Assistant Manager/Trainer, and counseling staff regarding progress, challenges, engagement and overall performance of individuals with disabilities who are training, being evaluated, and/or in extended employment in cafeteria/food service. 

  • Supervises Building #3 cafeteria operations. 

  • Knows, implements and ensures basic food safety and sanitation practices. 

  • Ensures participants maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria.  

  • Records inventory of stored food/beverages/paper goods/coffee/tea to be returned to Food Service Manager. 

  • Ensures the Meals Program Daily Participation form is accurately completed at Point of Service. 

  • Assists co-workers and customers as needed. 

  • Carries out any work assignments given by the Food Service Manager as needed. 

  • Observes participants in dining room at all times and calls a code for help when necessary. 

  • Counts daily receipts and start-up money and completes the daily cash report. Delivers cash and report to Food Service Manager. 

  • Reinforces that ServSafe Food Handler Certification techniques are used by all food handlers. 

  • Drives to Restaurant Depot and/or ShopRite to make food and/or supply purchases as needed accompanied by select food service trainees. 

  • Ensures Refrigeration and Warmer Temperature Charts are completed daily. 

  • Ensures proper recording of temperatures for hot/cold meals  

  • Posts monthly refrigeration temperature charts and weekly food temperature charts. 

  • Responsible for daily uniform laundering on-site/off-site. 

  • Notify Food Service Manager of all issues related to participants, staff, equipment, facilities, and dining. 

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent, additional college credits preferred. 

Must possess and maintain, or be able to obtain, ServSafe Food Handler’s certification. 

Valid NJ driver’s license in good standing 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

Ability to provide compassionate care and support to participants 

Compensation

$17.46 - $22.70 per hour
